MYS Musical Theatre Auditions: Top 5 Questions Answered
#1 Finding Us Marquee Youth Stage auditions and rehearsals are currently located at 619 W Main St, St Charles, IL. You can find our performing arts studio on the south wing of the Ameriprise building- parking is off of 7th St. Unless otherwise noted, tech rehearsals and performances will take place at our studio stage at 619.
#2 What to wear & what to bring… Auditionees should dress comfortably and wear closed toe jazz/ballet or gym shoes. Please bring a labeled water bottle. Unless otherwise noted, advance preparation is not necessary. Audition pieces will be prepared/taught (and provided) during the audition. Plan to arrive on time and ready to learn!
#3 What to expect at the audition Auditions are similar to the format of rehearsal, so participants should plan on staying the entire time. We will start with introductions and icebreakers to allow everyone to get comfortable with their peers and directors. Following icebreakers, participants will split up in groups and work on preparing a song, audition side, and a cut from a choreographed number from the show. Once everyone has prepared the material, everyone auditions in a supportive group setting. Participants who would like to be considered for a solo singing part must sing solo for their audition. Please note, those who wish to sing for the director only or have an additional prepared piece must sing after auditions have concluded. Parents should pick up their performers at the end of the audition. Audition technique sessions are available for those who are reluctant or nervous about any part of the audition process. To inquire or to schedule an audition technique session prior to auditioning, email [email protected]
#4 About Callbacks In most cases, observations from the auditions provide all we need for casting, and we rarely need to schedule a callback. If we find it necessary, we will contact individuals prior to the first rehearsal. All auditionees who are able to work cooperatively in a group setting are guaranteed a part (provided that spots are still available). The purpose of auditions is to assign parts based on what emerges from auditions and suitability for a role within the dynamics of the whole. The cast list will be posted via email typically within a few days of auditions.
